the built-in impermanence of the later
thermogenic drawings (and their associated
redacted and chemically altered versions)
required they be digitally preserved soon
after completion, since they had considerable
reference value to me and perhaps some
academic value for others. they were never
intended to be presented in gallery settings
given their highly unstable original form.
the conservation print series takes
creative liberties with the design of
the original drawings and presents each
of them "re-bound" inside a consistent
and visually stabilizing square format.
simple changes to aspect ratio as well as a
judicious approach to cropping were permitted
throughout the process of developing the series.
minor chromatic adjustments were also
allowed, but only along a few rather
narrow, self-imposed parameters.
on a number of occasions, studio
accidents and other technical mishaps
were introduced into the series.
these "missteps" bear titles that
begin with a tongue-in-cheek
use
of the word "defect".
